Did you ever want to have those crazy driving skills you see in those racing movies? It is not the speed that we are talking about, it is the awesome oversteer and overdrive mode of the cars. Watching cars do the crazy tricks is one thing, but doing them is another. Drifting cars, or the driving technique that lets the driver to oversteer the car while maintaining the car in a high speed, is not an easy skill to learn. It takes practice, patience and yes, money. If you are thinking of learning how to drift, there are a few things you need to remember.

First thing to remember is that drifting cars is not easy. It takes incredible amount of control from the driver to maintain an oversteer mode. It may take time to learn so being patient is definitely a must. Since a simple mistake may be fatal, it is not advised to rush into learning drifting when you are not confident with your driving skills.

The basics of drifting cars are the following. Of course, you will need a rear wheel drive car (RWD car). Having a good drifting car is advantageous when you are learning how to drift. Another requirement is a place to practice on, preferably an open, asphalted and safe road. Also, drifting cars doesn’t come cheap so you need money for gas, tires, and some basic drift car modifications. And lastly, as mentioned earlier, patience and hard work are needed.

Drifting cars demand so much control from the driver. Thus, novice drivers should not try it lightly. Experience drifters sometimes encounter problems during drifting that are fatal. The level of danger is definitely much higher when novice drivers do drifting. Drifting is not for faint-hearted drivers. It cannot be learned in a day and it requires determination, patience, time, and yes, money.

Have you ever seen a car chase video? Aren’t you astounded by the twists and turns a driver has to make in those videos? Well, watching them is one thing, but actually doing the driving is another level. What do you call the overdrive mode of those cars? It is drifting. Drifting cars is no walk in the park. It can be a pretty dangerous sport or hobby. If driving can sometimes be messy, drifting can turn to the worst. However, what is drifting and how does it work?

Drifting cars can be described as the technique when the car is turned through a corner making it sideways and keeping it that way. The manner of going sideways is referred to as oversteer. Being in oversteer mode may make the driver lose the back tires from gripping onto the surface. Thus, there is a control need to keep in sliding sideways. A car drifter maintains the oversteer mode by keeping the front tires in the direction where you are heading and then throttling out of a corner. Some may use the term counter steering but it is more than that and flooring a throttle.

When drifting cars, a person needs accurate balance of braking, shifting, steering and pulling the brake in order to be in drifting mode. It is comparable to driving that is almost beyond the driver’s control. Special drifting techniques are therefore practiced for a long time in order to achieve flawless sliding.

As many drifters would say, drifting cars is not for novice drivers. It may be fun to watch and may appear easy, but in reality, it takes incredible amount of practice in order to control a car in its drifting mode. Even experienced drifters stumble into accidents. A simple mistake when driving on the edge of control is very dangerous and can be fatal. Thus, it is recommended that novice drivers should not try drifting.

Unlike any other sports, drifting cars are not that really complicated to learn about. The adrenaline rush of every drifter will give him or her the edge to learn faster because they are more than willing and determined to know about how to drift a car. It is the passion that literally drives them to go sideways with their cars. For those who are in this level, here are some of the basic things that you can simply master about drift cars.

What is Throttle?

Mastering the drifting techniques is the core of a drifter’s ability. This is probably the constant thing that they need to work on. With the throttle technique, one learns how to increase the car’s angle. The amount of throttling is dependent on the amount of counter steer and at the same time the car’s angle. If the drifter goes too much on throttling, the drifting cars will spin while less throttling will decrease the cars’ angle and if you go too little with it, grip will be regained. So one must be able to practice and calculate how much throttling they should put on.

How about the Brakes?

Brake is important when one enters the drift but is not usually much used while on the drift itself. Even in the normal course of driving, brake pedal is used to halt or slow drifting cars down but in drifting there is more than to slowing. One needs to know how to properly brake to influence the balance as it shifts weight. Therefore it is necessary to watch your brake balance because one needs to have a good vibe for knowing when to hit the brake.

When to use of the Clutch?

To initiate the drift, the clutch is the one often used. The importance of using the clutch pedal is in the adjustments in drifting and if it is properly used drifting will be smooth and speed is not sacrificed. The adjustments include increasing the drift angle and gaining of momentum.

These are the important and very basic drifting techniques that one should remember if they want to have a smooth drifting ride with their drifting cars.
